Panthers - nice attempt to tap into the phobias deeply embedded in the psyches of born-in Witnesses who have gone through the pain of leaving the org by trying to get them to feel they have put themselves at risk by leaving the safety of the organisation. Nasty piece of attempted psychological manipulation!

I have three questions for you:

1. Where do you get off being so arrogant that you think not only that humanity as we know it will end during your lifetime but also that you and 1 in a 1000 others are the only ones capable of recognising this?

2. Why can't you see that the past helps us to understand the future and that failed prophecies of imminent Armageeddon for over 100 years by the organisation and it predecessors makes fears that it will happen either imminently or at all completely irrational?

3. How will you feel in 5, 10, 20 or 30 years time when the penny finally drops and you see you wasted your life believing the lies of a misleading and manipulative organisation?

It must have been a brother!

i was listening to a conversation of jws recently about how trusting they are with each other and how out in "the world" you have to be ever so careful that you don't put down your purse or wallet for a minute otherwise it will be stolen.. i entered the conversation with an experience that one of my close friends had.

(true story) he was in a public place with a wallet with significant amount of cash and bank card, credit card, id, etc.. somehow he lost or misplaced the wallet, panicked of course.

he went to the police, cancelled all his cards and thought it was gone for sure.

snkaeface - as a 'worldly' person I thank you for your vote of confidence. I have had a number of experiences of both having things I lost returned to me and returning things I found to the owner or to a lost property office. It is actually quite a common occurrence in the 'world'. Fraz

Maybe moving! Need some advice

wife wants to get away to start over.

i also want to move but at the right time and to the right place.

That sounds like a good plan. I am also thinking of moving (country) to get my wife away from the congregation here that has too many people connected to her hometown. In another location she may not feel the same social need to attend.

skeeter1 - I think your theory is beginning to sound very pausible. It seems that the plane was hijacked but not to ransom the passengers so what do they want to use the plane for? Iran or Afghanistan are possible destinations. Very worrying

My JW mom is coming for her 2nd visit this year!

my kids are so excited to see grandma again, after just a month.

she canceled her visit scheduled for 2 weeks ago, when she realized it was the weekend of the circuit assembly.

(they drive 75 miles, to go to the assembly hall, which is 3 miles from my house... we still wonder if they take the long way, or just hold their breath as they go driving by our property unnoticed).

Good luck - I hope it goes well. Be careful that by accepting magazines from her you do not create expectations but at least if she thinks you are a possible study it may create opportunities for you to ask questions to get her to think.

I don't underestimate them - they will hold on to Crimea and no one will push them out simply because it is not important enough for NATO to go to war over and the Ukraine miliatary are not strong enough to resist. The sanctions are hurting Russia but not enough and the West won't sustain them. The referendum will vote in favour of independence from Ukraine and that will legitimize a creeping Russian annexation. But Russian ambitions are very much about protecting borders not projecting power hence why they are not the Soviet Union when it comes to being a global military force. And the ideological war with the US that played out during the Cold War is also a thing of the past.

A few points: 1. The Soviet Union is not the same as Russia 2. The dispute over Crimea will never escalate into a major conflict 3. Russia is not a serious rival for world power with the US (China is emerging as a more likley rival but still has a ways to go) 4. The GB will use current world events however they can to back up their claim that the end is nigh and that bibilical prophecy is being fulfilled but will never admit when a prophecy they made, like the one you quote from 1981, proves totally incorrect - they will never admit that identifying the Soviet Union as the King of the North was completely bogus - if they were actually interested in the TRUTH they would do this.

And how they like to play on the fact they are so honest - a friend who is building a house in the village my wife comes from confided that when he was getting quotes he got this Witness turn up (his wife comes from a Witness family but was never baptised) saying how he was so honest and then his quote was twice that of other builders and when my friend checked references found out his work was shoddy. But I am sure my father-in-law will use that guy to do the roof repairs I am financing.

There are plenty of similar stories on JWN. The most common perpetrators of fraud on JWs are other JWS. They think they must be honest because they are Witnesses which means they don't recognise they are getting cheated until it is too late.

rehashed format but same ole' shite.. hypocritical article on viewing "weak" ones compassionately usign the example of a single mum arriving late yet the may km has a whole article on how rude it is not to be punctual.. read it and weep....

Flavia accepted Bible truth and was baptized. But because she was studying for an advanced degree, her time for preaching the good news was limited. One day she listened as the circuit overseer discussed James 4:17: “If someone knows how to do what is right and yet does not do it, it is a sin for him.” That moved Flavia to think about her own situation. She relates: “While wanting Jehovah’s blessing, I also wanted satisfaction from my career in science. I had to choose.”

Flavia made the personal decision to end her studies at the university. Did that leave her with regrets? She says:

“In Jehovah’s service, I have gained benefits unattainable at the university. Jehovah has been good to me. He has taught me to be kind, to show love, to help others spiritually. I have a wonderful marriage and a future far better than the one offered by science. Only Jehovah can save the planet. I will not turn my back on him.” Flavia and her husband serve at the world headquarters of Jehovah’s Witnesses in New York."

This makes me so angry - guilted by the org into not pursuing her interest in Science and realisign her potential as a Scientist. If the story is true (and it may not be or may only be partially true) then I would like to fast forward 5 years after Flavia realises the duplicity and BS at Bethel and realises what she has given up thanks to the lies of the GB and she comes on JWN to lament how she was cheated.

my heart is heavy as i write this letter.

i have been trying to live my life as best that i can since leaving jehovah's witnesses.

my dad was not a witness and was my rock when i left the religion.

'If I can keep the lines of communtication open, should I keep trying to snap her out of this fog she is in?' Cement the relationship first. Don't say or do anything to raise the cult defences. She already has you pegged as an apostate so is on her guard. Anything you say that confirms that may give her cult personality permission to cut off communications notwithstanding the needs of her Mum personality.
